And now, on with the class...

ENG1D with Mr. Lobb - Your Introduction to English

Hello.

My name is Mr. Lobb and I am your ENG1D teacher. I am also sick. With no voice.

There is a lot of introductory material that I would normally give you at this time, and it would be powerful and informative, but I am not here to share that with you.

As such, the onus is now on YOU to make this class go well. And go well it must.

Today’s Task List:

  • 1. Hand out iPads.
  •
  • Every student will get a SPECIFIC iPad. That is your responsibility for the semester. Treat it with love and respect for this device is crucial to your work in the course.
  •
  • Record and remember your iPad number. Each day you will get that one and return it to the correct slot, plugging it in carefully before leaving.
  •
  • 2. Hand out Elements of English 9. This is our first textbook. Please record this number as well, for the same reasons.
  •
  • 3. Check out my blog at www.eng1gdci.blogspot.com and read the Course Information sheet for English 1D. You need to be aware of this before we begin.
  •
  • 4. Make sure you have a Google account and a Gmail address. You probably already do, but if not, make one.
  •
  • 5. Assignment 1 is to send me an email at thelabcoatguy@gmail.com from your Gmail address. This is the best way to submit work. Nobody can lose anything.
  •
  • Make an Evernote account (www.evernote.com). Using your iPad, check out the Evernote app on the iPad. This would be the BEST way for you to take notes in class, although you can certainly use a pen and paper if you like. You should watch the Intro to Evernote video on the Evernote site, and check out other videos there if you like. VERY HANDY. (earbuds would make this way better and less noisy)

  • Make a Dropbox account, which should be self-explanatory, but is another way for you to save your work in the cloud (especially from the iPad).

  • And now, write me a 300-500 word This Is Me opinion piece, telling me all about you as a person AND as a student. I will take them in any form starting Monday.
